You can do anything you want as long as it seduces the reader.P Duganhttp://www.pdugan.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6320269312957801390.post-50657207055884197942010-05-19T09:56:52.446-07:002010-05-19T09:56:52.446-07:00Thanks, Thomas! His goal was to teach the reader about exploring lexical semantics with corpora, but I learned something else from it, too: that the meanings of words (and phrases!) are not always as straightforward as we think they are. I think unpacking these meanings is a big part of what linguistics has given me the tools to do, and in this post you made use of those tools to great effect.Thomas Baileyhttp://mythichistory.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6320269312957801390.post-8196802689070942272010-03-19T09:20:11.526-07:002010-03-19T09:20:11.526-07:00I appreciate that, Jaleh. Interesting to see so much onfo gathered from the forums.

I think of showing and telling, or narrative and scene, as the hammer and tongs in the writers tool box. You hold the story in the telling, manipulate it and move it along. Then you hammer it into shape in the showing, turn scenes and bring out emotion.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
