Actually worked well.

I especially like the change genre role tip. That's being worked into the sequel to the above story.Karen Cioffihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15492421057039326702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6320269312957801390.post-37466352275156090332012-01-17T11:41:46.178-08:002012-01-17T11:41:46.178-08:00Thanks for extending my suggestions, Calvin! I think the idea of deliberately defeating cliché is a wonderful one - I use it a lot, too.Juliette Wadehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02879627074920760712noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6320269312957801390.post-24090720794338890142012-01-17T11:19:51.183-08:002012-01-17T11:19:51.183-08:00Good points, Juliette. Too often I've found myself writing a cliche--boy rescues girl--often with dominant cultural stereotypes (i.e., the woman is young, pale, and slim). Sometimes when I catch myself doing this, I try to reverse things--girl rescues boy; or make the woman older, darker, tall/large; and so on.

Also--think about the villain/antagonist's motives. If the villain has a motive (other than being eeviiilll) it makes for a more complex, more interesting story.

This is just extending your suggestions, of course-- CWJCalvinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10558762473911106563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6320269312957801390.post-39547871587399992252012-01-17T11:00:21.271-08:002012-01-17T11:00:21.271-08:00I can't remember if I read this the first time...I can't remember if I read this the first time, but I like your breakdown. Oddly, I think I've done each of these types of twists at least once :).Margaret M. Fiskhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00537558539259791284noreply@blogger.com
