Echo-location for humans...?

My friend Mary pointed me to this interesting article about a young boy born without his sight, who has apparently learned to use clicks to help him navigate successfully. It's interesting to consider how that might work... Certainly brains are more flexible than we often give them credit for, especially in the very young.

The link is here.

  1. I saw a show on this. I couldn't believe what I saw. The ability of the human body to adapt is amazing.

  2. If you try it out yourself, you'll find it's possible for sighted people to do it as well. It's hard, but I got to the point where I could locate large objects (like sofas) before crashing into them.

  3. Wow. You're brave to try it, Thryn. But thanks for telling us about your experience... now you're making me curious whether I could try it. (imagines self making a mistake) Maybe when I have someone around to spot me.
