Link: Gendered Cover Poses

I was fascinated by the following two posts, dealing with what it would be like to attempt the poses that are given to male and female characters on book covers. Summary: men's poses are natural, and women's poses are bizarre and will make your body hurt. But it's so much more interesting when you see these two people actually attempting the poses and talking about their experience. So go check these out: Jim C. Hines and genrereviews...

  1. Thanks for the pointers. It's very interesting, especially the second one that looks a little more at how and why these positions might be considered appealing and why that doesn't necessarily make sense. I'd like to see a series with a female MC marketed with cover art like the male ones and see if it makes a diff :).

  6. I've already been a fan of Jim C. Hines from his Princess books (read the first 2 and the third is waiting on my shelf). Now I'm even more of a fan. So funny! And he's got a great wife who can control her laughter enough to take steady pics.

  7. Oh, Jaleh, I hadn't thought of that, but she must have amazing sang-froid in the face of such hilarity.
